President John Mahama has penalised all his appointees who failed to meet the March 31, 2025, deadline for asset declaration.
He said they will all forfeit their four-month salaries.
These salaries, he explained, will be donated to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, also known as MahamaCares.
However, they have until Tuesday, May 5, 2025, to declare their assets or face automatic dismissal.
Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, announced this in a post on Monday, May 5, 2025.
This follows the President’s launch of a Code of Conduct for Public Servants in Accra.
“All appointees who failed to declare their assets by March 31 will forfeit their 4-month salaries, which will be donated to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (MahamaCares Fund),” he said.
In January 2025, the President directed all appointees to declare their assets by the end of March.
This was after the President had formally submitted his asset declaration form to the Auditor-General, Johnson Akuamoah Asiedu, at the Jubilee House.
In a brief statement, Mahama emphasised the importance of transparency in rebuilding public trust.
“In times past, I would privately present these forms to the Auditor General in fulfillment of my statutory obligation. I have taken the step of presenting these forms publicly as a way of injecting some openness and transparency into the process of asset declaration.
“I have maintained that while it is all well and good to punish corruption, a more effective way of addressing the canker is preventing it from occurring in the first place.
“I honestly believe that if properly created and enforced, the asset declaration can become a sustainable tool for tackling corruption,” he stated.
President Mahama sanctions appointees who defaulted on Asset declaration by 31st March.
