The Central East Regional Police Command has arrested 35-year-old Benjamin Owusu for allegedly faking a robbery and kidnapping incident at Fijai, a suburb of Millennium City in Gomoa Nyanyano, Central Region.
According to the police in a press release dated September 25, 2025, the incident occurred on September 3, 2025, around 3:00 a.m., when the Millennium City District Police Command received a report from a complainant who said he received a text message from Owusu suggesting he was under a robbery attack at his residence.
Police investigations began after officers visited Owusu’s residence but could not find him. They, however, discovered blood stains on the bedroom floor, which were later lifted for forensic analysis.
“Further checks revealed that the suspect had abandoned the SIM card used in sending the distress message but later succeeded in replacing it and making calls from a location in Elubo, Western Region, on 5th September,” the statement explained.
Forensic examination of the blood samples proved they were not human, raising suspicions. Investigators later discovered that Owusu had intentionally killed a duck and used its blood to stage his kidnapping.
The suspect was eventually arrested at his hideout in Akatamanso, Ashanti Region, on 24th September 2025. Upon interrogation, Owusu admitted staging the incident because he could not account for monies in his custody belonging to his employer.
The press release confirmed the arrest and assured that the suspect would be put before court to face justice. It also warned others against similar acts.
“The Central East Regional Police Command wishes to commend all stakeholders who assisted in the arrest. We caution persons with such intentions to desist, as they will be made to face the full rigours of the law if arrested,” the press release stated.
