Strategic Thinkers Network (STRANEK), a policy think tank, has called on the minority leader in parliament, Hon. Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu to personally foot the bill incurred when parliament was recalled on September 1.
A statement signed by the Executive Director of STRANEK, Nii Tettey Tetteh, read “Strategic Thinkers Network (STRANEK) deems it fit to ask the Minority leader to humbly pay for causing financial loss to Parliament and the state as a whole or better still calling on the appropriate state agencies to surcharge the Minority leader if he doesn't state within 48 hours why he shouldn't.â€
The statement further read “It is for this reason amid other litany of reasons we advocate for the Minority leader to be surcharged with the cost of what we call wasteful parliamentary and misadventure by the appropriate state agencies.â€
Speaking to primenewsghana, STRANEK’s Executive Director, Nii Tettey Tetteh stated that it was clear to all and sundry the agenda for which the minority called for the parliamentary recall was to score cheap political point for their party supporters to see them to be acting in the state’s interest despite the fact that CHRAJ was already handling the case.
Â
Below is the statement:
MINORITY LEADER MUST PAY FOR WASTEFUL PARLIAMENTARY RECALL- STRANEK
Strategic Thinkers Network (STRANEK) deems it fit to ask the Minority leader to humbly pay for causing financial loss to Parliament and the state as a whole or better still calling on the appropriate state agencies to
surcharge the Minority leader if he doesn't state within 48 hours why he shouldn't.
The hogwash of the minority has led to the waste of resources and precious time of Members of Parliament when the reason for the recall has already been taken by CHRAJ (Commission of Human Rights and Administrative Justice).
The invoking of article 112 (3) of the 1992 Constitution and Order 38 (1) of the standing orders of Parliament by the Minority is needless per our observation as a think tank. No wonder, the Speaker of Parliament shot down the motion.
It is for this reason amid other litany of reasons we advocate for the Minority leader to be surcharged with the cost of what we call “Wasteful Parliamentary and Misadventure†by the appropriate state agencies.
A think tank like STRANEK that brings clarity to good governance, political and economic issues in the country believes that refusal of our request  will be a disrespect to Ghanaians. This in the long run has consequences unless he and his Party including his Flagbearer do not care about Ghanaians hence doing politics with Parliamentary process and wasting our money capriciously.
We kindly hope that enough attention will be accorded to our request to serve as a lesson to both caucuses.
Surely, we are all involved in building our motherland Ghana.
