The Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu, is expected to lead the Minority Members of Parliament to join the Ghana First Patriotic Front (GFPF) in their second demonstration against the Ghana – US Military Cooperation Agreement on Saturday April 21, 2018.

The second demonstration is scheduled to take place in the Northern Regional capital, Tamale.

The Minority caucus in Parliament participated in the first demonstration which took place in Accra on Wednesday, March 28, 2018.

A statement signed by the ranking Member on the Communication Committee in Parliament, Alhaji A.B.A. Fuseini says, before the first demonstration said “the Minority Caucus will join forces with the Ghana First Patriotic Front (GFPF) and all other groups who have so far registered their displeasure by expressing their unflinching support and participation in tomorrow’s march of destiny”.

He added “it must be stressed that this is a principled position”, saying the main opposition will continue to explore “many democratic options not limited to demonstrations, public fora, picketing, court actions and the notice we have served that a future NDC Government will urgently review this obnoxious agreement”.

Speaking in an interview with Prime News Ghana on Thursday on whether the minority will join the second demonstration come Saturday, the Member of Parliament for Sagnarigu Constituency in the Northern Region, A.B.A. Fuseini said “like we said in the earlier statement, the minority is in full support of the demonstration and we are going to be there this time. In fact, I will be the first to be at the grounds to support the demonstration”.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) MP said “we shall give our full support to Ghana First Patriotic Front until President Akufo-Addo and his government revert the agreement”.

Meanwhile, the organizers of the demonstration said all is set for the Saturday’s event in Tamale in the Northern Region.

A statement from the group expressed gratitude to Ghanaians for supporting the maiden demonstration in Accra and urged them to do same in Tamale on Saturday.

Below is the full statement:

ALL SET FOR #PUTGHANAFIRST DEMONSTRATION IN TAMALE

The Ghana First Patriotic Front (GFPF) wishes to assure all Ghanaians that all is set for the “Put Ghana First Demonstration” which will be held in the Northern Regional Capital, Tamale on Saturday April 21st, 2018.

We are grateful to Ghanaians from all walks of life for the support we have received so far. After a massively patronized and impactful demonstration in Accra a few weeks ago and a very successful public forum at the University of Ghana, the Ghana First Patriotic Front wishes to commence its regional demonstrations across the country with Tamale being our first destination following the Akufo-Addo Government's intransigence.

We remain inspired by the solidarity expressed by opposition political parties, the Minority in Parliament, Civil Society groups, academics, workers, professionals, women, youth groups, student unions and the general public.

We also acknowledge the widespread condemnation of the President’s undemocratic outrage and his visibly emotionally charged unpresidential response to our first demonstration.

That notwithstanding, his address will not intimidate nor deter us. To the contrary, our resolve has been strengthened and we are further motivated to defend the sovereignty of our beloved country regardless of what it will cost us.

Demonstrators will converge at the Jubilee Park at 6am before marching through the principal streets of Tamale and back to the Jubilee Park where statements will be made.

We humbly appeal to all Ghanaians joining us on Saturday to come wearing black or red with Ghana colours as we convey our unambiguous message which is to mourn President Akufo-Addo's betrayal of our trust and his unfortunate determination to mortgage our sovereignty, dignity and stability for a pittance.

Ghana First!

Signed,

Edem Agbana
