Nabco trainees in some of the government institutions in the country have been asked to proceed on two weeks' leave.

The Ghana Standards Authority's notice to the trainees said: " As part of the exit plan of the NABCO program which ends this month, we write to inform all NABCO trainees to proceed on two weeks mandatory leave effective Monday first November 2021 to the eleventh."

The statement said the leave has become necessary for management in consultation with the NABCO secretariat to plan and strategise on retaining trainees for the service of the Authority.

Meanwhile, Former Executive Director of Danquah Institute, Richard Ahiagbah, has admonished beneficiaries of the Nation Builders Corp (NABCo) to take their training seriously.

He said the training that NABCo beneficiaries receive as part of the programme will boost their chances in the job market.

“It is not really a question of ‘the programme is coming to an end, what do you do for me?’ But it should be: ‘the program is coming to an end, what have you made of it?’” he said.

He made this comment on Good Morning Ghana when a beneficiary of the NABCo programme texted into the programme to ask what the government has in store for them after they complete the programme.

Richard Ahiagbah said the NABCo programme was created as a stop-gap measure to provide a platform for the youth in the interim to get relief for a period and plan forward.

He claimed the module in which these individuals were enrolled was an avenue for the building of one’s capacity and it has created the opportunity for beneficiaries to venture more into entrepreneurship.

“The programme properly understood was to provide opportunities for individuals in it to build capacity and grow on that platform into other avenues,” he said.

The former Danquah Institute boss said the programme was a means for individuals to spring up and develop skills that will in the long term serve as their source of employment and income.

He claimed that the skills that participants gain at the end of the NABCo programme can be channelled into creating jobs of their own.

He made these comments when he was interviewed on Good Morning Ghana on Tuesday, October 26, 2021.

On Tuesday, May 1, 2018, Nana Akufo-Addo launched the Nation Builders Corp (NABCo), an initiative that is aimed at solving the unemployment situation in the country.

The programme will absorb half of the enrolled number of people into the working sector after four years.
