The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), in collaboration with the National Investigations Bureau (NIB), has arrested a key suspect in connection with the 320 kilograms of methamphetamine shipped from Ghana and intercepted in Australia.

According to NACOC, the drugs, valued at $296 million, were traced to a storage facility in Girraween, Australia, in April 2026, triggering a joint investigation aimed at identifying the individuals and networks behind what authorities describe as a record-breaking haul.

In a statement issued on June 24, the Commission said the arrest marks the first breakthrough in efforts to unmask the syndicate responsible for moving and diverting the shipment.

The Commission said investigators are working closely with international law enforcement partners to track down other suspects believed to be part of a wider transnational criminal network operating across multiple jurisdictions.

NACOC described the development as a critical step in the ongoing fight against large-scale narcotics trafficking and organised crime.

“This arrest marks a pivotal moment in a coordinated international effort to dismantle the sophisticated transnational syndicate,” the statement noted.

Authorities believe intelligence gathered from the suspect will assist in identifying and apprehending additional members of the network.

NACOC reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with international partners to combat drug trafficking and protect the region from the influence of organised criminal groups.

The Commission added that further arrests are expected as intelligence-led operations continue.
