The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has announced the installation of new security screening equipment at the passenger checkpoints in Terminals 2 and 3 of Accra International Airport.
In a public notice, GACL said the state-of-the-art screening system is aimed at improving aviation security while making the screening process faster and more convenient for passengers.
Under the new system, passengers will no longer be required to remove laptops and other large electronic devices from their cabin bags during screening.
Travellers will also be allowed to keep their shoes and belts on unless they are asked to remove them as part of additional security checks.
In addition, liquids, aerosols and gels can remain inside cabin baggage during screening. However, GACL noted that the existing rule limiting liquids to containers of no more than 100 millilitres remains in force.
The company said the new equipment also features an Automatic Tray Return System, which is expected to speed up the screening process by quickly returning trays to passengers for repacking their belongings.
According to GACL, the new screening system will be introduced gradually alongside the current procedures before full implementation.
The company appealed to passengers and other stakeholders to cooperate as the new equipment is rolled out in the coming days.
