St Francis Xavier SHS and Saviour SHS appeared to be no match for the Defending Champions Prempeh College, in their first contest which happens to be the final contest for the one-eighth stage of the 2018 National Science and Maths Quiz.

The four-time winners, Prempeh College began the competition on a high note as they stretched both schools with a whopping 14 points in the first round.

The support from audience belonging to Prempeh College was enough to boost the performance of the contestants while demoralizing Upper West regional giant St Francis Xavier SHS and Saviour SHS in the process.

At the end of the contest, Prempeh College won with 62 points, while Saviour SHS scored 18 points and St Francis Xavier SHS scored 29 points.

Prempeh College has therefore qualified to the quarter-final stage and will clash with Accra Academy and Islamic SHS at the quarter-final stage.

The quarter-final stage of the 2018 NSMQ begins from Thursday, 28th June 2018 to Saturday 30th June 2018, followed by the Semi-Finals on July 2, 2018.

At the quarterfinal stage, each point of the competing schools will be worth Five Ghana cedis (GHS 5) and this will be paid out to each of the three competitors and their teacher.

Mfantsipim School is expected to clash with PRESEC, Legon and KNUST SHS in the first contest of the quarter-final stage on Thursday, June 28.

The Grand Finale of the 2018 National Science and Maths Quiz will be held on Thursday, July 5.

Prempeh College won the 2017 competition with a two-point margin after runners-up, St Thomas Aquinas gave them the scare of their lives in the final round.
