Anti-galamsey taskforce arrests nine illegal miners at Prestea

Nine people have so far been arrested by members of the anti galamsey taskforce, Operation Vanguard, at Prestea in the Western Region. 

According to reports, the miners were busily carrying out their activities when the task force arrived at the site. The latest arrest brings the number of people arrested to 105 with 90 to be arraigned before the court. 

John Peter Amewu, Lands and Natural Resources Minister, has congratulated the forces for their determination to flush out illegal miners in the country.

The Minister said he has absolute trust in the task force and the entire country must encourage them to do what is right.

"As time goes on, details of those arrested and the subsequent actions would be communicated to the public but we have 100% confidence in what the task force is doing on the field,"he stated.

The task force Is made up of both military and police personnel who have been put together to tackle the menace of illegal mining in the country.
