The Manhyia Palace has announced that the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, will "in the next few days" submit his report and recommendations in his mediation of the protracted Bawku conflict to President John Dramani Mahama.

In a press statement issued by the Asantehene’s Chief of Staff, Kofi Badu, on Monday, December 1, 2025, he said the President will be expected to act expeditiously on the report and the recommendations to ensure there is lasting peace in Bawku and its environs.

“His Majesty announced that he would submit his report with his proposals to His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama in the next few days.

“He hoped that the President would act expeditiously and çonvene a formal meeting of all interested parties to announce the outcome of the mediation mission,” the statement contained.

The report and recommendations, according to the Asantehene’s Chief of Staff, comes after several months of mediation between the two feuding factions, where each of them were met separately to present their side of the story.

He added that Otumfuo also brought the two factions together to speak to each other, bringing an end to the months of mediation.

“After spending several months listening to both parties present their arguments in separate meetings, His Majesty had brought both sides to speak directly to each other in a final effort to explore a pathway to lasting resolution of the issues that have persistently undermined the peace in the Bawku traditional area.”

The statement added that the environment for the meeting was serene and peaceful, adding that both sides have expressed the need to be at peace with each other.

“The meeting was held in a cordial atmosphere with both sides emphasising the fact that they are one people who have no reason to be at war with each other.”

Kofi Badu added that the Asantehene expressed gratitude to the two factions for exhibiting “civility and maturity”, and urged them to stay together as one people.

“His Majesty thanked both sides for their civility and maturity and urged them to remember that whatever the outcome of the mediation, they would have to live together as brothers and sisters.”
