President Akufo-Addo has arrived in Tamale for the outdooring of the new Yaa Naa Abubakari Mahama ll which is scheduled for Friday, January 25, 2019.


After 17 years of conflict, peace has finally returned to Dagbon as the traditional processes have been completed and a new Yaa Naa will be outdoored on Friday.

The Savelugu Naa, Abubakari Mahama ll, was among four persons whose names came up as possible successors of the late Ya-Naa whose funerals have all been performed.

He was nominated by the oracle and that is in line with the customs and traditions in respect of succession to the Kingship of Dagbon.

The President arrived at the Tamale Airport today and was met on arrival by the Northern Regional Minister Salifu Saeed, the Defence Minister Dominic Nitiwul, Interior Minister Ambrose Dery, the Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, and regional executives of the NPP, as well as citizens of the Dagbon traditional area.

President Akufo-Addo congratulated the new Yaa Naa last week and expressed his delight at the peaceful processes that the people of Dagbon went through to finally elect a new ruler.

He also thanked the Asantehene Otumfou Osei Tutu II for his role in ensuring that peace returns to Dagbon after seventeen years.

A ceremony to outdoor the new Yaa-Naa is expected to attract traditional rulers, religious groups, civil society organizations, representatives of political parties and social groups, as well as thousands of Dagbon residents.
