Police in the Western Central Region have arrested one person and seized weapons following a violent clash between two rival groups at Simpa in the Nsuem District.

The confrontation, which took place near the Simpa Sawmill on Sunday, September 28, claimed the life of 23 year old Emmanuel Cudjoe.

According to police, the disturbance began when a group led by 25-year-old Daniel Cudjoe, also known as Ato Asare, confronted a rival faction from Dadwen led by suspects identified as Alhassan and Abolo. Investigators say tensions escalated after the Cudjoe group learned that members of the rival faction had allegedly destroyed mining equipment belonging to them.

The standoff quickly turned violent and escalated into an exchange of gunfire. Emmanuel Cudjoe was fatally shot during the incident, while several others fled the scene.

Police responded to a distress call and later arrested Daniel Cudjoe. Two pump action guns, three machetes, four motorbikes, a tricycle and a regalia were recovered from the area.

The Western Central Regional Police Command says investigations are ongoing and has assured the public that all those involved will be pursued and made to face the law.

Assistant Superintendent of Police Beatrice Turkson, Head of Public Affairs for the region, urged calm and pledged that the matter will be handled thoroughly.
