All the four presidential aspirants in the New Patriotic Party's January 2026 primary have been named as co-chairmen of the newly established NPP Policy Committees.
The NPP flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, in a deliberate signal that the elephant family was closing ranks and marching in one direction, strategically named the four.
Dr. Bawumia intends establishing a structured, data-driven Policy Committee framework within the party.
The framework according to him is designed to generate credible, evidence-based alternative policy recommendations across critical sectors of Ghana's economy and governance, and to position the NPP as not merely an opposition party, but a government-in-waiting with serious, workable solutions for Ghanaians.
At the apex of the new structure sits the NPP Policy Committee, which will be chaired by the legislator and former Minister of Works and Housing and Information, Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah.
Serving as Secretary to the Committee is Dr. Kwasi Nyame Baafi, a technocrat whose appointment is expected to lend significant intellectual and administrative rigour to the body's operations.
The Committee will oversee a broad range of sector-specific sub-committees covering employment and jobs, energy, decentralisation and local governance, roads and transport, land and natural resources, education, health, the economy, and several other critical policy areas.
Each committee is tasked with conducting independent research, engaging sector experts and stakeholders, and producing policy alternatives backed by verifiable data, all for the review and ultimate approval of the flagbearer.
According to the flagbearer's office, Dr. Bawumia was determined to move the NPP away from reactive opposition politics towards "proactive, solution-oriented governance preparation."
Dr. Bawumia wants a party that doesn't just criticise, he wants a party that can present Ghanaians with a clear, costed, and credible alternative at any point in time, the office indicated.
Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, the outspoken businessman and former Member of Parliament, has been appointed Co-Chairman of the Employment and Jobs Policy Committee, a portfolio that aligns squarely with his long-standing advocacy for private sector-led job creation and entrepreneurship.
Kwabena Agyapong, former NPP General Secretary takes the co-chairmanship of the Housing and Urban Development Policy Committee, a sector with deficits that remain a top concern for Ghanaians in both urban and rural communities.
Bryan Acheampong, former Minister for Agriculture and Interior, assumes the co-chairmanship of the Defence and Interior Policy Committee, a natural fit for a man who brings firsthand ministerial experience in security and governance.
Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, former Minister for Education, completes the quartet as Co-Chairman of the Education Policy Committee, bringing with him an enviable track record of policy innovation and a deep passion for transforming Ghana's educational landscape.Ghana Business Insights
