The Greater Accra Regional Police Command has arrested a suspect in connection with the assault report of JoyNews journalist Latif Iddrisu.

A statement released by the police on June 8, 2025, said Theophilus Thompson, aged 55, who resides at James Town, was arrested on June 7, 2025, at about 5:00 p.m. in connection with the assault.

The suspect is currently in custody and is assisting with the investigation.

On May 27 2025 at about 7:00 p.m., a group of individuals, including some members of parliament and supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), staged a demonstration in front of the EOCO Office, Accra, in protest against the arrest of the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, Mr. Bernard Antwi Boasiako, alias Chairman Wontumi.

During the protest, Latif Iddrisu, who was covering the event for JoyNews, was confronted and assaulted by some demonstrators.

The police subsequently launched investigations into the assault leading to the arrest of the suspect.

The Accra Regional Police Command reiterated its commitment to protecting the rights of journalists and ensuring that anyone who engages in acts of violence against media personnel or any member of the public is brought to justice.
