The Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) has petitioned the Ghana Police Service to investigate the circumstances under which a police vehicle knocked down a boxer and sped off.

The boxer, Isaac Awuley is currently in a very critical condition at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital after suffering neck injuries in the hit and run incident.

According to the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA), Naa Darkuah Dodoo, Awuley’s condition is so dire that doctors have advised he undergoes emergency surgery.

"We are hopeful that he will be operated on and everything will be fine but we have petitioned the Ghana Police Service to investigate this case and we are going to make sure that there is a thorough investigation into the matter", she disclosed on Starr FM on Friday morning.

Narrating the incident, Naa Dodoo said the police vehicle after knocking down the boxer sped off leaving him to his fate. It took an eyewitness to take him to the hospital after which a report was made at the Korle-Bu Police Station.

The accident, she explained, has affected the victim so much so that he has almost become a burden on his manager who has been left to foot his medical bills.
