The North East Regional Police Command has commenced investigation into an armed attack on two personnel of the Ghana Immigration Service at Gbintiri near Nalerigu.
A statement issued said that at about 1:00 am, Friday, October 3, police received information about an attack by unknown gunmen on two Immigration Service officers who were on duty at the Gbintiri Inland checkpoint.
Both officers sustained gunshot wounds. One of the officers died after he was shot while the other was immediately sent to the hospital for medical attention.
Police say the armed men took away a motorbike and a bag belonging to the officers. A service rifle which was being used by the officers at the checkpoint, was retrieved by the police.
The Northern Regional Police Command assured the public that there is a manhunt for the perpetrators of this heinous crime to face the full rigours of the law.
“We hereby appeal to the public to provide any information on the culprits to assist Police investigation,” the police announced.
