Police have arrested a 34-year-old quack doctor who was attending to patients at the Surgical and Emergency Unit of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.

The suspect, Jacob Nii Laryea was reportedly arrested by doctors on duty while he was wearing a white doctor’s apron, with a stethoscope around his neck and attending to patients.

Confirming the incident, ACP Antwi Tabi, Dansoman Divisional Commander, said on August 17, 2016, some doctors and security from the hospital brought the suspect to the station, saying they have spotted him almost three times at the said hospital attending to patients.

The suspect, Laryea could not answer simple questions posed by the doctors on duty and so they became suspicious of him, ACP Antwi Tabi told the Daily Guide.

The suspect was finally arrested by the staff of the hospital after he returned on the following day to attend to patients but could not produce his identity card or identify which department he was working from.

Laryea was subsequently handed over to the Korle-Bu police but now in the custody of the Dansoman Divisional Police Command assisting in the investigation.

He has since provisionally been charged with defrauding by false pretense and would be arraigned before court.
