Police probe killing of five at sand winning site in Asiyaw

The Eastern South Regional Police Command has initiated an investigation into a shooting that occurred on April 29, 2025, and killed five (5) people in Asiyaw, near Akwane-Dobro, Nsawam.

A statement issued by the police revealed that the crime scene team which responded to the incident, found the lifeless bodies of five (5) male adults with gunshot wounds.

Preliminary investigations conducted by the police revealed that there was a confrontation between two groups over sand winning at the location of the incident.

According to the police, the team also recovered some items from the scene.

The recovered items at the scene were one (1) Toyota Tacoma vehicle, one (1) Toyota Tundra vehicle, one (1) pump-action gun with seventeen (17) live cartridges, four (4) empty cartridges, three (3) 7.62/39mm empty shells, one (1) 9mm empty shell and five (5) heavy-duty motorbikes.

The bodies of the deceased have since been deposited at the Police Hospital mortuary for preservation, identification and autopsy.

Meanwhile, an investigation is underway to get the perpetrators arrested.
