The timely intervention of the Zongo Divisional Police Command in Kumasi  has averted a mob action that would have caused the certain death of a suspected phone thief.

The suspect, believed to be in his mid-30s, whose name was not readily known, was beaten by an angry mob with stones, metals and wooden objects after he attempted to steal a phone at a female hostel close to the Kumasi Polytechnic in Kumasi on Sunday morning.

The thief reportedly scaled a wall to get access to the hostel around 5am but someone saw him and quickly raised an alarm.

The youth of the area surrounded the thief and beat him from all angles as he bled from the nose and mouth

The angry mob was divided as to what should be done in order to end the life of the suspected thief who was then looking weak and panting for breath.

Some suggested that they should continue to beat him till he died but majority wanted the thief to be set ablaze.

Luckily for the thief, a good samaritan called Supt Rev Dr Nyamekye Adane-Ameyaw, the Zongo B District Police Commander, on phone.

The police chief, who was briefed about the intention of the mob, quickly sent his men to the scene to rescue the suspected thief from the jaws of death.

Supt Rev Dr Adane-Ameyaw told DAILY GUIDE that the suspect was quickly rushed to the hospital for medical care since he was feeling very we inak.
