A clash between students of the Kumasi Technical Institute (KTI) and the police on Tuesday afternoon left 14 students injured with others suffering asthma attacks.
Some police officers in an overzealous bid to instil some discipline into the students reportedly chased the students to their dormitories to beat them up, leaving many with injuries and subsequent hospitalisation.

The students, whose school had qualified for the Super Zonals of the Ashanti Regional Inter Schools and Colleges Athletics Competition, blocked the stretch of road from Amakom to KTI Roundabout in their jubilations while coming back to campus from the Baba Yara stadium.

According to reports, the police came around to facilitate traffic flow and they instructed the students to use different route but some students refused, leading some of the police officers to allegedly assault some students.

Not pleased with the police treatment, some of the students allegedly started to throw stones at the police who repelled the attacks by firing tear gas and gunshots to disperse them.
