Security agencies have arrested 53 Nigerian nationals and rescued 44 others in a series of intelligence-led operations targeting suspected cybercrime centres in parts of Accra and surrounding communities.
The raids, conducted on January 16 and 17, 2026, followed a 48-hour intelligence operation by the Cyber Security Authority (CSA) Ghana, which identified several locations where young men were allegedly being exploited and forced to engage in cybercrime activities.
The operations took place at East Legon Hills, Afienya, Kwabenya, Weija and Tuba, and were carried out by a joint team comprising National Security Operations, the CSA, the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters and the National Police SWAT.

According to the Minister for Communications, Innovation and Digital Technologies, Sam George, nine of the arrested Nigerians are believed to be key suspects, while 44 others were rescued as victims. The victims were found in apartments operating laptop computers under suspected coercion.
Searches at the various locations led to the recovery of 52 mobile phones, 62 laptops and two pump-action guns. In total, 17 suspects were arrested at Tuba, 11 at Afienya, 10 each at Kwabenya and Weija, and five at East Legon Hills.
All arrested persons have been profiled and handed over to the Ghana Immigration Service for further investigations and possible repatriation or prosecution.

Security agencies have cautioned foreign nationals intending to travel to Ghana to verify claims made by compatriots, noting that many victims are lured into the country under false pretences and later exploited.
The CSA reiterated that protecting Ghana’s international cyber reputation remains a top priority and commended partner security agencies for the successful operations.
