The Ghana Police Service has arrested seven suspects believed to be part of a sophisticated robbery syndicate linked to a series of violent attacks across Accra, Tema, Anyinam, Kumasi and Takoradi, where victims were reportedly robbed of cash, gold and mercury.
The arrests were carried out through the Office of the Special Operations Assistant to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), following intensified intelligence-led operations targeting organised criminal networks operating under the guise of security operatives.

According to preliminary police investigations, the case began after a complaint was lodged by Mousa Bamba, an Ivorian investor, who reported that he had been lured to Dzorwulu in Accra under the pretence of purchasing six kilogrammes of gold valued at $450,000.
The suspects allegedly posed as officers of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and military personnel, before attacking the victim at gunpoint and making away with valuables.
.

Subsequent investigations led to the arrest of two key suspects identified as Mohammed Umaro, also known as “Alhaji”, and Gabriel Sewornu, also known as “Dangote”.
Further intelligence operations implicated additional individuals, including two military personnel, Lance Corporal Eugene Akurugu and Lance Corporal Emmanuel Arko, also known as “Bullet”, as well as three police officers—Inspector Richmond Osei, Corporal Gideon Anor, and Lance Corporal Felix Deku Tetteyga.

The Police have since interdicted the police officers to allow for full and transparent investigations into their alleged involvement in the criminal syndicate.
On 23 and 24 May 2026, coordinated operations by the Office of the Special Operations Assistant to the IGP resulted in the arrest of three more suspects: Justin Oduro, also known as “Don King” or “Mafia”, Clement Gyasi, and Farouk Zakari.
The police say all suspects are currently in custody assisting investigations, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other accomplices believed to be connected to the wider network.

The Police has assured the public of its commitment to dismantling organised criminal syndicates and ensuring that all individuals involved, regardless of status or profession, are brought to justice.
