The Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police headquarters in Accra has revealed that a special team has begun investigations into the gang-rape of a girl by at least five boys.

A viral video showing some guys presumably teenage boys, pin an underage girl to a mattress while they take turns to perform sexual acts on her, sparked public outrage with many Ghanaians calling on authorities to take immediate action.

Faces of the boys can easily be seen speaking a Ghanaian language (Twi) with the eldest amongst them urging the younger ones not to be afraid in laying the girl in question who at a point became weak and begged to be allowed alone.

It is yet to be ascertained when and where the incident took place, but a statement by the Public Affairs Directorate of the Ghana Police Service stated that a “special investigation team has been constituted at the CID headquarters to analyze the video with the aim of identifying those involved and get them arrested for the necessary legal processes to be activated.”

The Police, however, admonished all media houses and those in possession of the video to stop circulating it since it is an offence to circulate such obscene materials.

They added that “anybody with any relevant information should personally report to the Cyber Crime Unit of the CID headquarters for further action.”
