Authorities have revealed that the strip nightclub located at Discovery hotel in Tamale will be closed down and its unlawful activities brought to a halt.
The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly (TaMA), Issah Musah stated that a collaboration between city authorities and the Sagnarigu District Assembly will ensure that the facility is closed down.
“There is a thin line between the Sagnarigu and Tamale Metropolitan Assembly and we cannot sit on unconcerned. We will take the necessary action to ensure that the matter is dealt withâ€, he said.
Media investigations revealed that the strip nightclub which was recruiting teenagers as strippers had begun operations at the facility belonging to Philip Akpeena Assibit without the knowledge of city authorities.
Checks at the Ghana Tourism Authority confirm that managers of the facility located at Jisonayili have not received certification for purposes of operating a strip club but are grooming teenagers as strip dancers.
Banner advertisements also indicate that the strip nightclub operates every Sunday from 10 pm till the following morning. Further checks, however, reveal that patrons of the strip nightclub pay GH¢10 as entrance fee.
Earlier this month, the Metropolitan Chief Executive, Iddrisu Musah vowed to put an end to the activities of sex workers in the region, warning that anyone caught engaging in the act will be arrested by a combined team of armed police and military personnel.
