Hundreds of residents at Tapa Abotoase in the Biakoye District of the Volta Region have demonstrated against lack of social amenities in the community which is affecting them.

The community lacks portable drinking water, good roads, good lorry parks and markets.

They said the poor and insanitary conditions along the lake in the community which serves as a source of drinking water poses health dangers to them.

Most of the demonstrators were market men and women, driver unions and some residents.

They blocked some roads in protest against the government’s inability to provide them with these social amenities.

The demonstration affected the revenue generation of the District Assembly because the market men and women and commercial drivers failed to pay the daily toll.

Clad in red and black attire and placards, the demonstrators explained that the poor state of the only market, lack of access road to the main market and the abandoned lorry park project is affecting them.

The leader of the demonstrators, Ofori Dansoh, in an interview with PrimeNewsGhana said the insanitary conditions along the lake which serves as a source of drinking water has been a worry because animals also drink from the same lake.

He said all efforts to get the assembly fix these challenges have proved unsuccessful so they had no option than to hit the streets with the protest.
