Tema Police intercept sacks of suspected Indian hemp; one arrested

The Tema Regional Police Command has arrested suspect Bismark Kpormeno, for possession of large quantity of compressed plant materials suspected to be narcotic drugs.

Police said the suspect was arrested on Sunday, May 31, 2026, by officers of the Tema Highway Patrol Unit during an operation along the Tema-Ada road.

The suspect, at the point of the arrest was driving a Hyundai Mighty II container truck but failed to stop when signaled by the officers and attempted to evade arrest.

He was subsequently pursued and apprehended at Bondase.

A search conducted on the vehicle led to the discovery of twelve (12) sacks and eighty (80) parcels of compressed plant materials concealed in a container and wrapped in sellotape.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the substance was allegedly loaded at Kpeve in the Volta Region and was being transported to Ada.

The suspect is currently in police custody assisting investigations. The vehicle and exhibits have been impounded for evidential purposes.
