The Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team of the Ghana Police has arrested three people in the Dabala and Sogakope areas of the Volta Region for allegedly impersonating high-profile public officials on social media to defraud unsuspecting victims.

The suspects are accused of posing as the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, the Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, and other well-known personalities to carry out their scams online.

Those arrested are Gideon Awudi, 25, Edem Soku, 33, and Judith Soku, 31. Authorities say the suspects were also involved in mobile money fraud, credit card fraud, airtime scams, and fake online sales across various social media platforms.

The arrests followed a sustained, intelligence-led operation conducted in Sogakope, Dzodzent, and Penyi.

The suspects are currently in police custody and are assisting with ongoing investigations.
