The governing council of the University of Education, Winneba, UEW, will today meet over the chaotic demonstration by students which resulted in the shut down of the school last week Friday, March 15, 2019.

The Council will then hold a press conference to address the media on the impasse after a crunch meeting.

In an interview with Starr news, the Public Relations Officer of the SRC of the UEW, Clifford Agyeman said they are expecting to have a fruitful discussion and come up with ways to solve the issue.

''We are expecting nothing but the best decision to come out of this meeting. We are just looking forward that this issue will be resolved for students will be called back to campus to continue with academic work. We are hoping this situation will be resolved''.

Media reports suggested that all lecturers who were either sacked or suspended by the Vice-Chancellor of UEW Professor Afful-Broni have been reinstated as part of a peace accord following the tensions that have engulfed the school.

Also, one of the suspended lecturers at the University of Education-Winneba Dr. Emmanuel Sarpong has said he has not been recalled back to post, contrary to claims in the media.

An impasse between the Vice-Chancellor and some of his lecturers and the member of parliament for the Efutu constituency, Afenyo Markin, resulted in a violent demonstration on campus on Wednesday by students leading to the destruction of several school properties.

Meanwhile, a lawyer, Theophilus Ade Poju has filed a suit against the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Education, Winneba, UEW, Rev. Fr. Prof. Anthony Afful-Broni.

Mr. Poju is contesting the legality of Rev Afful-Broni’s occupation of the Vice Chancellor position of the University.
