The University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) has called for the resignation of the Vice Chancellor of University of Education-Winneba(UEW) as reports indicate that he has sacked some lecturers who openly disagree with him.

The new Vice Chancellor Rev. Prof. Afful-Broni's managerial style and policies in running the school have been questioned by some lecturers of the school and also the MP for Efutu Alexander Afenyo-Markin who accused the Vice-chancellor of arbitrariness and recklessness in expenditure.

The MP further called for the resignation of the new Vice-Chancellor.

Students of the school also on Tuesday embarked on a demonstration on campus to press home their displeasure at happenings at the university.

Addressing the media Tuesday, National UTAG president, Dr. Eric Opoku Mensah said the lecturers association expects an immediate resignation of the Vice Chancellor and the reinstatement of the dismissed staff of the school.

“That the victimization and polarization on UEW campus are at variance with the President that the VC should reconcile all factions regarding the impasse which existed before his investiture, as at now over 30 people have been sacked, suspended or demoted arbitrarily.

“having failed his assigned task, It is the considered position that Prof Afful-Broni should resign honourably to save UEW from further chaos. UTAG is demanding an unconditional reinstatement of all staff who have been dismissed, demoted or suspended”.

UTAG also declared support for the demonstration of the students over the development but urged them to be cautious as they push home their position.
