A pharmacist has attributed the low patronage of condoms in Ghana to people's desire to have the "ultimate feeling" during sexual intercourse.
Elizabeth Amoako of Jinlet Pharmacy, says many shun the use of condoms because they feel the rubber sheath waters down the feeling of enjoyment and ecstasy of unprotected sex. This desire supersedes the need to protect themselves.
The Ghana AIDS Commission at a press briefing last month explained that Ghana imports about 30 million condoms annually, but usage is on the low side.Â

The acting Director of Technical Services at the Commission, Cosmos Ohene-Adjei, said the low patronage of condoms is worrying and could hamper efforts at reducing the prevalence rate of HIV/AIDS.
Pharm Elizabeth Amoako acknowledged the situation and offered some reasons in an interview with primenewsghana

She believes youth sensitization must be stepped to create awareness on the danger of contracting sexually transmitted diseases, including HIV.
