The Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Godwin Kudzo Tameklo, has reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to intensifying the fight against illegal fuel smuggling and trading along Ghana’s coastal areas.

His assurance comes in the wake of renewed joint operations by maritime security agencies that have led to the arrest and destruction of eight dinghies allegedly used in illicit fuel activities.

Mr Tameklo made the remarks on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, during a visit to the Eastern Naval Command in Tema, where he engaged officials on strengthening collaboration to curb illegal operations within Ghana’s maritime space.

He commended the Eastern Naval Command, the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA), and other maritime law enforcement agencies for their continued efforts in tackling smuggling and related offences.

According to him, the NPA remains fully committed to supporting joint operations through intelligence sharing and strengthened coordination with security agencies to protect the downstream petroleum sector.

“We will not relent in the fight to combat illicit fuel smuggling and trading activities along our coastal areas,” Mr Tameklo indicated.

For his part, the Flag Officer Commanding the Eastern Naval Command, Commodore Solomon Asiedu-Larbi, assured of the Navy’s readiness to deepen collaboration with the NPA to prevent illegal fuel operations within Ghana’s maritime domain.

He stressed the Navy’s continued commitment to securing the country’s coastal waters and supporting enforcement efforts against maritime-related crimes.

The visit forms part of ongoing inter-agency efforts to strengthen enforcement and improve coordination in the fight against illicit fuel activities.
