Workers of the Electoral Commission(EC) are demanding an unsociable allowance of a 50% increment in their basic salaries.

Speaking on Accra-based Citi FM, Chief Executive Officer of FWSC, George Smith Graham said the implementation of the Single Spine Salary Structure(SSSS), has ensured a reduction of the 96 allowance categories to 30 and not prepared to introduce fresh ones.

Mr. Graham said, the FWSC would not compromise on the salary structure by adhering to the demands of the EC workers but would rather engage them to discuss the way forward.

He said, their demand is common as far as labour unions are concerned but not part of the categories two or three allowances that is being implemented currently.

“They have written to us and we will sit down with them, have a discussion and the things we can accommodate from the general request, will be accommodated while those we won’t accept would be rejected,” he stated.

He added that, the Commission would not be subjected to accepting new allowances into the system because it took several years to reach the current stage where multiplicity of allowances was abolished.

Though the Commission is aiming at moving into ultimate consolidation of allowances, he said, it would not be forced to accept any allowances submitted by the unions except it would be discussed for the best outcome.
