Police arrest suspect in connection with the murder of University of Education lecturer in Winneba
The suspect, identified as Joshua Karry Arthur, was apprehended on Thursday, May 22, 2025, at Essuokyir in the Central Region, where the lecturer’s residence is located.
According to police, the deceased lecturer had been reported missing on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, by his colleagues, who grew concerned after repeated attempts to contact him failed. Officers proceeded to his residence, where the suspect was found and subsequently arrested.
Investigations at the scene revealed blood stains leading to a heap of sand approximately 23 metres from the house. Upon clearing the sand, police discovered a buried body believed to be that of the missing lecturer. The body was recovered and taken to the morgue for preservation and autopsy.
Police also retrieved several items believed to belong to the deceased, including two Samsung mobile phones, a laptop, a 50-inch television, and a car key to a Toyota Fortuner.
The suspect is currently in police custody assisting with ongoing investigations, and is expected to be arraigned before court soon.
