The Progressive Peoples Party (PPP) has condemned president Mahama's referral of the Montie 3 inspired petition to the Council of State describing the act as needless.

President Mahama handed over the petition to the Council of State through his chief of staff, Julius Debrah on Monday.

The ‘Montie 3’ namely Alistair Nelson, Godwin Ako Gunn and Salifu Maase are serving a 4-month sentence at the Nsawam Prison for being in contempt of the Apex court of the land.

There have subsequently been efforts to seek presidential pardon for the three especially from the NDC, their professed political party but policy analyst for the PPP, Kofi Siaw Asamoah speaking to Citi FM has opined that it is needless for the president to submit the petition to the Council of State because he the president chooses to accept or decline advice given him by the council.

He added the president best knows what’s in Ghana’s interest and freeing the ‘Montie 3’ is not in the state’s interest.

Mr. Asamoah however expressed hope that the council will recommend to the president a need for the ‘Montie 3’ to serve their 4-month sentence so as not to dent his own image or give an inkling of overriding the court’s authority.
