A member of the Ashanti Regional Council of Elders for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has explained that all the losing candidates in the just ended regional executive election of the party have a lot to contribute to the victory in 2020 elections.

Mr. Frank Osei Mensah said the winners and the losers should rather work extra hard to make the party attractive and bring it back to power in 2020.

The NDC Council of Elders member gave the explanation in an interview with Accra based Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen on Friday monitored by PrimeNewsGhana.

He cited that the defeated Ashanti Regional Chairman, Joseph Yamin, as one of those who has a lot to contribute to the victory of the party come 2020.

“Yamin is still relevant in the party. The world is not over for him because I can assure him that, he rather has a big role to play in the NDC”, he added.

He said “in those days, we had party members who were defeated in various elections but they never gave up because winning power in 2020 is more important now and so we need to work on that”.

Reacting to insinuations by some members in the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) that Mr. Yamin could not win the seat because he was seen as a ‘foreigner in the NDC, Mr. Osei Mensah said “for us as a party, we never engaged in such acts and so those saying that Yamin was ousted because he is Fulani is not true".

“There were only two Ashantis in the race and rest were from the north so how could they make such claims”, he quizzed.

Mr. Yamin lost the chairmanship by 88 votes to Augustus Andrews Nana Kwasi in the elections on Saturday.
