The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has selected Baba Ali as its parliamentary candidate for the upcoming Ayawaso East by-election.
The party has decided against holding a primary to allow interested persons to contest the seat that has become vacant following the Member of Parliament’s death.
Speaking on Accra-based Citi FM, the New Patriotic Party Chairman for the Greater Accra Region, Divine Agorhom, said their choice of candidate is backed by experience, honesty, humility and the ability to mobilize.
He believes that the choice of candidate ticks all their boxes and therefore choosing him gives the party an advantage in the election.
“We want somebody who has the party experience, who will work within the party, somebody who is known within the party and somebody who has the humility and the ability to knock doors, go to everybody and work such that we will be able to help him within this small period of time and get the constituency to accept him,” he told Accra-based Citi FM.
“The gentleman we settled on appears to have ticked all these boxes, and for that, we think that we are good to go. We have decided to settle on the constituency secretary in the person of Baba Ali,” he added.
Meanwhile, in the National Democratic Congress (NDC), six persons, including the widow of the former Member of Parliament, have picked forms to contest the party’s primaries.
The NDC’s primary is slated for February 7, while the Electoral Commission has scheduled the main election for March 3.
