President John Mahama has urged Ghanaians to be guided in their utterances as the 2016 general elections approach.

Ghana goes to the polls on December 7 to elect a president and 275 parliamentarians amidst fears of violence erupting because of the elections.

Indeed, the 2016 National Elections and Security Taskforce in August identified over 5,000 flashpoints where the threat of the eruption of violence was real.

Speaking at graduation parade of the Ghana Military Academy in Accra on Friday, President Mahama stated that ensuring a peaceful election was the responsibility of all citizens so "we all must be reminded of our patriotic duties and use temperate language in order to ensure peace."

I will do everything to maintain the highest credibility of our elections but "we must all be accommodating and tolerant", President Mahama who was clad in a ceremonial military uniform added.

He further urged Ghanaians to cooperate with the various security agencies in order to safeguard the nation's peace.
