Member of Parliament for the North Dayi constituency in the Volta region, George Loh has described attempts by the minority in parliament to impeach president Mahama over the Ford gift saga is borne out of desperation for power.
He described pronouncement by the minority leader to the general public that he was unaware of the content of the motion paper despite having his signature appended shows he was out to deceive right thinking members of the public.
“We found that the minority leader has granted an interview that he was not aware that there was a recall and did not know what the recall was about.
“We took a look at the motion paper and he was the one who signed it so clearly we do not know why he was misinforming everybody and claimed he did not know anything about the recall†he disclosed on GBC’s ‘Behind the News’ show.
Hon. Loh added the majority in parliament per speculations from the minority in the public domain of an impeachment process just got to know the motion had nothing to do with the supposed impeachment motion but rather a request for a special committee to investigate the president.
“So that was what we were interested in only to get to the parliament house and see the motion that has being filed and found out there is nothing about impeachment in the motion, all they sort to do was that they were calling for special committee to be set up to investigate the Ford saga.â€
He believes the act by the minority is a waste of time of members and the tax payer. “It’s a calculated attempt to waste the time of members and of course the tax payer.â€
The Member of Parliament indicated, the call for a special committee will be expensive and would not be necessary as CHRAJ has the best platform to address conflict of interest issues.
“We are all aware that CHRAJ is already investigating this matter and have reached quite far with their investigation and so if one constitutional body which has the mandate per Supreme Court ruling, if it’s a conflict of interest matter CHRAJ is the proper forum to go to.
“Why should the minority of parliament call an investigation into the same matter, which comes at a huge cost to the state?
“We are saying that we found it to be mischievous and a deliberate attempt to explore an opportunity to throw dust or mud at the president because all question raised on that motion paper is being answered already.â€
