New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer aspirant Kennedy Ohene Agyapong has conceded defeat in the party's flagbearer race.
Although the Electoral Commission is yet to declare the winner, the former Minister has accepted that his bid to lead the NPP into the 2028 elections has fallen short.
Speaking to the media at his office, Ken Agyapong noted that he experienced a similar defeat in the 2023 primaries; therefore, the 2026 outcome is not a surprise to him.
He said the result did not come as a surprise, recalling a similar experience during the party’s 2023 presidential primaries.
Mr Agyapong expressed gratitude to his supporters for their efforts and urged them not to allow disappointment to give way to bitterness or division within the party.
“I know most of you are dejected. You have to keep your spirit up, because once we have life, we have everything. So don’t be dejected,” he said, describing himself as a “veteran politician” who had experienced defeat in the past.
He cautioned his supporters against any actions that could sow discord within the NPP.
“I’m pleading with all of you not to do anything. We have to stay calm. We believe in the party. The delegates have spoken. We have to take it,” he stated.
Mr Agyapong further called for unity within the party, urging members to put the outcome behind them and work together ahead of the 2028 elections.
“Do not use this against anybody in the party. Let’s all come together as party members and work together,” he said, adding that the party still had “three years to go” before the next general elections.
“Who knows what will happen tomorrow?” he added.
