Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Â has appealed to the people of Togo not to vote in Ghana's December 7 elections, according to a report by Accra-based Kasapa FM.
Akufo-Addo said this when the visited the border town of Aflao as part of his regional tour.
Akufo-Addo, who spoke in French, told the Togolese that by abstaining from voting, they will be helping grow Ghana’s democracy.
According to him, Ghanaians should be that only ones to decide the next president for the country.
The NPP leader appealed to the Togolese authorities to prevent their citizens from crossing into Ghana on election day.
The NPP has always accused the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of allowing foreigners from Togo to vote in Ghana’s elections.
But the NDC has always denied this, saying that only Ghanaians working in Togo vote in the elections.
The NDC has stated that it would hold a series of campaign events in Togo to galvanise its supporters to vote on December 7.
