The Progressive People's Party (PPP) has accused Electoral Commission (EC) of being selective in their treament of political parties in Ghana.

The Electoral Commission (EC) on Monday declared Akufo-Addo, President John Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Ivor Kobina Greenstreet of the Convention People's Party (CPP) and independent candidate, Jacob Osei Yeboah eligible contestants for the December 7 presidential polls.

While one aspirant, Akwasi Addae 'Odike' of the United Progressive Party (UPP) was given up till Friday, October 14 to settle a dispute with his party executives or face disqualification, twelve others including the PPP's Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom were outrightly disqualified from the race over some anomalies on their nomination forms which the EC said, breached CI 94, the constitutional instrument guiding the conduct of the elections.

Dr Nduom at a press conference on Tuesday, pleaded for a five-minute discussions with the EC Chairperson, Charlotte Osei to correct what he described as only administrative and clerical errors but nothing came out of the brief meeting which was held on Wednesday with Madam Osei that they were not entertaining any petitions from the disqualified applicants.

But speaking Class FM's midday news on Friday, General Secretary of the PPP, Murtala Mohammed, stated that the EC's posturing smacked of slective justice becuase even though flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of perjured himself in the filling of his nomination forms, the EC went ahead to put him on the ballot paper.

According to him, they have evidence Nana Addo submitted his form without declaring his assets but signed an oath that he had declared.

"The EC is perpetuating selective justice on the political parties because Greenstreet and Nana Addo all signed without declaring their assets and that’s perjury", he alleged.
