A former President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kwesi Nyantakyi has officially declared his intention to run in the upcoming by-election in the Ejisu constituency.

This decision follows the recent passing of the former MP John Kumah.

According to Nyantakyi, the unfortunate exit of Mr Kumah was like substituting a player like "Cristiano Ronaldo" who can only be replaced by a player of similar quality such as "Lionel Messi".

He said he had reached the pinnacle of sports in Ghana and it was time for him to use the knowledge and experience gained to benefit the people through politics.

In an interview with Captain Smart on Tuesday, April 2, Kwesi Nyantakyi outlined his primary focus if elected as Member of Parliament (MP) for Ejisu. He expressed his commitment to revitalizing Ghanaian football, a sector he previously led around six years ago during his tenure at the GFA.

He highlighted his extensive experience as a former GFA President, referring to himself as an "insider" who understands the intricacies of football administration.

Moreover, Nyantakyi emphasized his legal background, indicating his intention to leverage his expertise as a lawyer to contribute significantly to the development of football and sports in general.

Nyantakyi's return to football administration comes after a period of suspensions from various football governing bodies due to allegations of corruption. These allegations surfaced following an exposé released by Tiger Eye PI, leading to Nyantakyi's exit from football leadership roles.

The NPP has set Saturday, April 13, 2024, to elect a Parliamentary Candidate for the Ejisu constituency by-election after the opening of nominations on Tuesday, April 2.

Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission is yet to announce a date for the by-election.
