Minority in Parliament are calling for the head of Minister for Special Development Initiatives, Mavis Hawa Koomson over what they say is a gross incompetence in the allocation of GH¢800,000 for the development of a website in the ministry’s 2018 budget.

Minority Spokesperson for Finance, Cassiel Ato Forson, said the minister must resign immediately as she is not fit for the office.

“I don’t think she even deserves to occupy the office as a minister of state. She should go immediately, she doesn’t qualify to occupy that office… This is blatant corruption. It is job for the boys.”

The Special Development Initiatives ministry on Thursday presented its budget for 2018 to the Finance Committee of Parliament.

The approved budget indicates that the ministry intends to spend GH¢800,000 for the development of a website and also GH¢132,000,000.00 for the construction of a solar-powered mechanized borehole.

The revelation has caused some Ghanaians, especially those on social media to question the figure allocated for the various projects.

But in reaction, the sector minister said it’s an oversight and the correct figure was GH¢80,000.

Cassiel Ato Forson in a radio interview believes the Minister’s statement was merely a reaction to the public outcry and that amount was indeed GH¢800,000.

“What we considered at the committee is GH¢800,000, certainly not GH¢80,000. Is the Minister telling me that she is such an incompetent lady to the extent that she couldn’t read and understand her own document?” he said.

He said Hawa Koomson must immediately resign because of her “incompetence” in handling the matter.
