President Mahama has strongly denied a claim by former attorney general, Martin Amidu, that he ordered the current  AG to withdraw a court application which sought to conduct an oral examination of businessman Alfred Agbesi  Woyome over his GH¢51 million debt to the nation.

Taking his turn at the Ghana Presidential Encounters 2016 organised by the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) in Accra on Wednesday, President Mahama said the A-G withdrew the application because Woyome presented Madam Marietta Brew Appiah-Oppong with a terms of settlement, which she wanted to study.

According to him, the AG planned to re-file the application if she did not reach a deal with Woyome.

The president went on to commend Madam Appiah-Oppong for the efforts she had in trying to retrieve the money.

He urged Ghanaians to be patient with the AG, who he said was committed to retrieving the Woyome cash.

President Mahama also lavished praise on Madam Brew Appiah-Oppong, describing her as a hero.

He said Appiah-Oppong deserved a national award because she fought several fraudulent judgement debt cases and won, saving the country almost $1 billion.

Meanwhile, former attorney general, Martin Amidu, on Wednesday, won a Supreme Court ruling to conduct an oral examination of Woyome.

The development prompted Woyome to lash out angrily, accusing the Supreme Court of persecuting him.
