President John Dramani Mahama on Thursday, July 17 inspected progress on the construction of a new 1,500-capacity multipurpose assembly hall at the Peki College of Education, reaffirming Government’s commitment to completing critical educational infrastructure projects across the country.
During the visit, the President noted that the assembly hall project was initiated under his previous administration alongside a girls’ hostel, which was completed and has since been serving students. He expressed satisfaction that work has resumed on the auditorium after years of inactivity, describing it as an important investment in the future of teacher education.
President Mahama commended the quality of work on the facility, stating that the modern assembly hall will provide a conducive space for academic, social and institutional activities while enhancing the overall learning environment on campus.

He disclosed that the project is nearing completion, with the delivery and installation of furniture being the final major component required to make the facility fully operational. According to the President, arrangements have been made for the furniture to be delivered within the month, after which the facility will be officially commissioned.
The President also used the opportunity to reassure students and trainee teachers of Government’s commitment to creating employment opportunities for graduates. He announced that clearance has been granted for the recruitment of at least 16,000 newly trained teachers and graduates from the colleges of education as part of efforts to address the backlog of trained professionals awaiting placement.
President Mahama further reiterated Government’s resolve to improve conditions across colleges of education through investments in infrastructure, student accommodation and other essential facilities aimed at strengthening teaching and learning outcomes.

He encouraged students to remain dedicated to their studies and continue striving for excellence, emphasising that Ghana’s future depends on a well-trained, skilled and motivated generation of young professionals.
