President John Mahama has announced that all outstanding trainee nurses’ allowances from January this year will be paid once the new payment system is fully operational.
Speaking at his thank you tour in the Bono East Region, the President acknowledged delays in payment but assured trainees that the Finance Minister has made provisions in the budget to settle all arrears.
“What has delayed the payment is that we are implementing a new system through the Controller and Accountant General’s Department.
“Once this system is ready, you’ll receive your allowances every month alongside other public sector workers, and all arrears from January will be paid,'' he explained.
The President emphasized that the new permanent payment architecture will ensure timely disbursement of allowances, eliminating the previous delays that characterized the trainee allowance system.
The President is being accompanied by Ministers of State, Members of Parliament and some executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
He is expected to address a similar durbar of the chiefs and people of the Bono region at the Sunyani Jubilee Park on Friday May 30.
The President would end his tour, which enabled him to express gratitude to the chiefs and people of the three regions for their massive support for him and the NDC in the 2024 General Election on Saturday May 31, by addressing a durbar of the chiefs and people of the Ahafo region at Goaso, the regional capital.
