Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari reacts to attempted 'coup' in Ghana

Muhammadu Buhari President of Nigeria has reacted to the attempted 'coup' in Ghana.

Buhari who was recently re-elected as President of Nigeria on Twitter reacted to the attempted 'coup' in Ghana and said the only form of governance in the 21st Century is through democratic elections.

“The only acceptable form of governance in our region in this 21st century is through democratic elections. It is the only way to install – and the only way to change – an administration. The days of coups and government without votes are over,” Buhari said.

"We in Nigeria hold out – as always – our hands in support and friendship to our brothers and sisters in Ghana."

On Tuesday, September 24, 2019, in a statement that security agencies in a dawn operation on Friday arrested three suspects and seized several weapons, ammunition and explosive devices at the Citadel Hospital, at Alajo and another location at Bawaleshie [Kpone] near Dodowa in Accra.

The suspects are Dr. Frederick Yao Mac-Palm and Mr. Ezor Kafui, a local weapon manufacturer and Bright Allan Debrah Ofosu who according to the government, were plotting to take over key state installations and the reins of government.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Information, the joint operation was carried out after fifteen months of surveillance and evidence gathering on the activities of the suspects and other persons.

At the magistrate court on Wednesday the three suspects were charged with; 1. Conspiracy to commit a crime – Manufacture of arms and ammunition without lawful authority.

2. Conspiracy to commit a crime – Possession of explosives and firearms without lawful authority.

3. Manufacture of firearms without lawful authority.

4. Manufacture of explosives and ammunition’s without lawful authority

5. Possession of explosives and firearms.

The case has been adjourned to the 9th of October 2019.
