The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has elected former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as its flagbearer for the 2028 presidential elections.
This marks the second time Dr Bawumia will lead the party into a general election, following the NPP’s unsuccessful bid in the 2024 polls.
Dr Bawumia secured a decisive victory at the party’s presidential primary held on Saturday, polling 110,643 votes, representing 56.48 per cent of the total valid votes cast.
Former Assin Central Member of Parliament, Mr Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, placed second with 46,554 votes (23.76 per cent), while Dr Bryan Acheampong came third with 36,303 votes (18.53 per cent).
They were followed by Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, who placed fourth with 1,999 votes (1.02 per cent), and Mr Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, who finished fifth with 402 votes (0.21 per cent).
Dr Bawumia’s victory positions him to lead the NPP into the next general elections as the party seeks to regain political power.
