The deputy general secretary of the National Democratic Congress, Koku Anyidoho, has condemned calls for the government to employ members of the vigilante groups affiliated with the New Patriotic Party as National Security operatives.

He was responding to a statement by the Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, that the members of these groups had fought well for NPP's victory and as such deserved to be given national security jobs.

“The vigilante groups are recognised in the party and so I will personally make sure they are recruited into national security. If it is work that they need, we will gladly employ them to continue working for Ghana. Any of the Invincible Forces and Delta Forces who have no work should come to me today, we will give them work," Agyapong said.

But in a reaction on Accra-based Neat FM, Anyidoho urged the government to reject the suggestion.

"In as much as we want to employ the youth, National Security shouldn’t be a dumping ground for unemployed youth. That is dangerous. We shouldn’t joke with that, those there are trained and professional.

"Is this the low level we want to drag our national security. Is the national security now a dumping ground? What training do these boys have after they have badly exposed themselves as party faithful? Are we going to paint the National Security in party colors,” he said.

The NPP’s Invincible Forces and the Delta Force have been condemned by a section of the public for their alleged acts of intimidation and violence.

There have been renewed calls for their disbandment, following an attack by the Delta Forces attack on the new Ashanti Regional security coordinator.
