Techiman named capital for Bono East Region

President Akufo -Addo has announced Techiman as the capital for the newly created Bono East Region.

The President on Wednesday, February 13 2019, made this known at a ceremony to present the Constitutional Instrument (CI 116) to give effect to the creation of the new region.

The President also appointed the Brong Ahafo regional minister, Evans Opoku-Bobie, as the caretaker Minister for Bono East region.

The President also on Tuesday, February 12 named Damango as the capital for the Savannah region and Nalerigu as the capital of the North East region. The President charged the Northern regional minister, Alhaji Salifu Saeed to act as the senior messenger for the two regions until a substantive minister is appointed.

Meanwhile, there was recorded cases of violence in Salaga following the announcement that Damango is the new capital for the Savannah region by President Akufo Addo. 

The Salaga youth earlier today also besieged the Salaga Police Station for the release of seven persons who were arrested yesterday in connection with the violence that erupted.

In a citinews interview monitored by PrimeNewsGhana, the PRO for the Northern Regional Command DSP Yusif Tanko said the situation is under control and police reinforcement has been sent to Salaga from Tamale.

According to DSP Yusif Tanko, ''Police in the Northern Region has arrested 7 persons in connection with the disturbance that took place in Salaga yesterday, the suspects has been brought down to Tamale to assist the police in further investigations.The police managed to prevent the youth from burning down the district assembly building and the DCE's bungalow. We are doing everything possible to ensure that more suspects are identified and arrested''.

''We are urging the people of Salaga to remain calm, and not to take the law into their hands and to assist the police in investigations. Any person who does any act that tends to disturb the peace will be dealt with decisively by the combined team of the police and the military,''he added.
